Primátor Double Bock - Privovar Náchod, Náchod
The Primátor Double Bock is a big beer in a small bottle. This Doppelbock weighs in at ten and a half percent alcohol yet it doesn't smell like a strong beer. The taste doesn't really seem to be in line with the ABV either. In many ways, this beer just doesn't make any sense... it's definitely an odd beer. Getting back to the aroma, this beer doesn't smell like a Doppelbock at all. There isn't much for you to pick up when you smell this beer, the aroma is very subdued. I could pick up on a little caramel and coffee in this beer but mostly I was only able to smell the sweet malt, which wasn't all that strong either... This all seemed very uncharacteristic for such a dark beer.
The oddities didn't stop with the smell, this beer got a whole lot stranger when I took a sip. My first impressions of the Primátor Double Bock flavor was that is super sweet like a dark cola. More than that, the sweetness seemed, off... a bit like a diet cola. The finish on this beer is a bit like caramel and soy sauce, which is a bizarre combination. The aftertaste is oily and a little like chocolate and caramel. This beer is definitely different.
I appreciate the odd flavors in this beer but I'm not sure I can recommend it to just anyone. This is a beer that is for advanced drinkers only. The flavor combinations may put off some people because they are so... weird. If you're looking for something which is firmly out in left field, give this a try.

Most popular in my neighborhood
This beer sells out fast every night if you don't grab your bottle fast! And it is worth making an early trip IMO. Sure, it is a dessert as well as a beverage, but that is fine with me. I like interesting flavor combinations, and I don't like a bitter dark beer. I prefer it cold than warm, and I can get drunk if I drink it too fast, but it is my absolute favorite beer ever, and I am not the only one in my neighborhood who feels this way.
