Overall Impression:
The Laughing Lab Ale from Bristol Brewing is true to it's "Scottish-Style Ale" labeling. It has the dry yet malty flavor you expect when you reach for a Scotch Ale. This beer is more hoppy than I'd like but it remains smooth enough to be enjoyable. Not the kind of beer I'd go out of my way to drink again, but it could be worse.

I picked up a six pack of Bristol Brewing's Laughing Label on a recent vacation stop in Colorado Springs. I figured, "When in Colorado Springs, drink as the Colorado Springsers drink." The Laughing Lab is labeled as a "Scottish-Style Ale" and, for the most part, that's pretty accurate. To me, the Scottish style's signature is its maltiness. The Laughing Lab smells very malty and very sweet. It almost smells like you've poured a glass of cola. The taste of this beer is a little bit surprising as it's rather hoppy. The beer is still quite balanced, it borders on being just a little too hoppy for the style in my opinion.

Even though this isn't my favorite Scottish style beer, the Laughing Lab isn't half bad. It's balanced and a little crisp. I'd like it better if it were a little more malty, but it is what it is. If you have a chance to try this beer, go for it.
