To me, Anchor Steam Beer is the reason why I try not to judge a beer before I drink it. I put off drinking Anchor Steam for the longest time because I was convinced it was a hoppy California IPA. I don't remember why exactly, but I probably just confused Anchor with Sierra Nevada... Anyways, when I finally had my first Anchor Steam Beer it was something of an epiphany. There were not angels singing or trumpets or anything like that, but it was a real surprise. This beer wasn't super hoppy and it didn't taste like dandelions or pine cones. I've had a few more Steam Beers since then and every time I drink one I like it even more.

There are many things I like about Anchor's Steam Beer. It starts with the packaging, the stubby yet sleek bottles are a lot of fun and the old fashioned label is great. The Steam Beer has a great appearance as well, it's a warm orange copper color. The flavor is pleasant if a little boring. The flavor is similar to an Amber that is more mild in bitterness and has a little more grain flavor. When the beer hits your palate it tastes like liquid white bread. It's light without being too thin, though a little astringency does creep through.

Anchor Steam Beer is a great session beer that is flavorful and easy to drink. I'd suggest everyone try at least one bottle of this beer, I'm sure you'll like it.
