Pints of Guinness are always a pleasure to watch. Of all the beers that I've had, pints of Guinness certainly win on the appearance front. As far as taste goes, this beer is a little dry, a little roasty and smokey but super creamy and smooth in texture. The most obvious taste in a stout is the bitterness and for some people the combination of flavors paired with dry and bitter just isn't that appealing. If you like creamy beers and bitterness doesn't turn you away, you'll enjoy a genuine Guinness

Guinness has defined Stout style beer for most people. The signature characteristics of a pint of Guinness has to be the jet black body, light tan head and the pseudo-geological sediment show that takes a few minutes to play out after your pint arrives. After the pint has gotten good and settled you'll notice that the head is still quite thick and very prone to lacing. If beers were all about looks Guinness would be at the top of the list. The flavor of the Guinness Draught is quite a bit different from most of the popular mass market beers. Instead of a crisp light lager, Guinness is a dark and bitter creamy stout. The bitterness of stouts like Guinness aren't for everyone, but I happen to like it.

What I like most about this beer's flavor is the roasty and almost smokey flavor that you get right up front when you take a drink. Beers like Guinness Draught have flavors that can be milky, chocolaty and even more like coffee. This means they aren't as easy to pair with food as other, lighter flavored, beers.

Guinness Draught is a classic beer that most people are familiar with. It's flavors can be a little off-putting to some palates, so if you decide to try your first Guinness be aware that this stout will be a little bitter and very creamy. For veteran beer drinkers, Guinness is still a solid stout with some good flavors. Though it may be lacking in body and complexity when compared to other stouts on the market, Guinness is still THE STOUT against which all others will be judged.
